Metropolitan Home- High Style with Contemporary Art

Highlighting outstanding use of art and framing in design, enjoy this contemporary take on artful living recently featured in Metropolitan Home. The incredibly bold, modern style reflected here really makes a statement about the lifestyle and personalities of the homeowners. How did this come about? Principle designer Judi Male, of Male-Cahlin Design in Miami, began a quest along with her clients to learn more about the contemporary art scene to suit their “vintage contemporary” style. They then set about designing a background for the collection, beyond a stage-like setting, but rather in a way that made their home comfortable for both entertaining and relaxation.

They actually began their journey at the same Art Basel/Miami Beach that Anne brought to life for us. The homeowners have a true appreciation for allowing the art to speak and keeping professional guidelines in mind when creating a space for such a significant collection. “Art needs to speak,” says the husband. “When the setting is cluttered, it’s hard to appreciate any one piece. It all competes, if only subliminally.” The pros second this, elaborating that “it’s important for the art not to compete with the objects on view, be they paintings, sculptures, or furniture.”

GET THE LOOK: For high style with contemporary art, you can start with these outstanding contemporary artists below. Then enjoy maximum custom sizing  options for a fine art Giclee on paper (up to 32” x 52”) or canvas (up to 54” x 102”) proportional to the original. Increasing the size and scale of art can create quite a focal point for great design. Minimalist frame options, such as canvas floater frames, also allow for the art to float front and center for it to speak clearly within your space.

I am a big fan of TL Lange. If you are, too, you may enjoy Steve’s highlight of his work as seen in Metropolitan Home. And don’t forget, no matter your personal style, feel free to mix contemporary in with other styles - that, in itself, is contemporary!

  1. WOW! what a great article!

  2. It is so effective to see art highlighted in this way–big and bold–and seeing art installed in this way helps the viewer to imagine it in his or her own home. Get the Look would be a great Artaissance feature on the site.
